VARICOSE VEINS

Are you one of over 30% of US adults with varicose veins?

At Elmore Medical, we see patients of all ages, genders, and backgrounds with varicose vein symptoms. Today’s treatments for varicose veins are quick, simple and do not require hospitalization or extensive recovery, and in most cases, create minimal and often imperceptible scars.

What Are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, swollen, and twisting veins that are just under the surface of the skin, often appearing blue or dark purple.

Varicose veins are primarily caused by faulty valves located in the lower extremities. These weak valves allow blood to pool in the veins causing the veins to bulge and twist like a knotted rope.

How are Varicose Veins diagnosed?

As an experienced surgeon specializing in Vascular Surgery, Dr. Gonzalez is able to evaluate and diagnose a variety of circulatory problems. Dr. Gonzalez and his team will perform a comprehensive examination and take a complete medical history to figure out if you have venous insufficiency. He will then order imaging tests to identify the source of problem and diagnose the affected veins.

Duplex Ultrasound

Duplex ultrasound imaging (DUS) is an essential part of the initial diagnostic evaluation. This state-of-the-art technology is utilized to measure the size, speed and direction of blood flow in the veins.

But sophisticated technology is only as good as the people using it. Exemplifying our commitment to quality, we employ the only full-time, Registered Vascular Technologists (RVTs) in the Central Valley dedicated solely to venous disease. The technician will use a small hand-held device called a transducer placed against the affected area. The transducer uses sound waves to produce onscreen images that help us define each patient's specific venous anatomy prior to recommending treatment.

An accurate diagnosis of your venous problem combined with our years of experience allows for the unparalleled success of treatment at Elmore Medical Vein & Laser Treatment Center.

 How Are Varicose Veins Treated?

With a wide range of available varicose vein treatments, the staff at Elmore Medical is prepared to customize individual patient care with innovative procedures requiring less discomfort and downtime. In most cases, treatments create minimal and often imperceptible scars. Treatment will depend on many factors, including the current condition of the affected area, and the patient’s health status and history.

Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT)

This revolutionary new therapy is the best available treatment for large bulging varicose veins. Through a single needle stick, a fine laser fiber is inserted into a varicose vein. Laser energy is used to generate heat which seals the vein closed. Performed under local anesthesia, patients quickly resume their normal activities. The published success rate for EVLT at Elmore Medical Vein & Laser Treatment Center is the highest for any physician, anywhere in the world.

Varithena - Transcatheter Sclerotherapy (TCT)

Varithena is the prescription medicine we most often use to treat varicose veins caused by problems with the great saphenous vein (GSV) and related veins in the GSV system. While duplex ultrasound imaging demonstrates the abnormal veins, the doctor closes them with sclerotherapy.

Microsurgery

Vastly different from the traditional vein stripping surgical procedure, microsurgery is a technique which utilizes special instruments to remove veins through a very few, very tiny, "micro" incisions. The incisions are so small that with normal healing one can scarcely find them on the leg.
