Can Medication Cure Varicose Veins?
The advent of medication has allowed for so many of our health problems to be solved including battling heart disease, headaches, and insomnia among countless others.
However, despite there being a medication for seemingly every possible ailment, no such pill or over the counter medication exists to cure vein disease.
Moreover, any potential “miracle cures” that may exist are purely there to rip you off. More importantly, they can be incredibly dangerous, so do not buy anything that claims to cure your varicose veins. This goes for many other online medications as well.
The best way to be sure about a pill or medication is to discuss it with your doctor. Together, you can make an action plan for whatever you are going through.
Everyday Relief
That being said, certain things can help alleviate some of the symptoms that go along with varicose veins such as leg swelling, lack of proper blood flow and cramping.
1. Magnesium
This mineral has nutrients that have been shown to increase calcium in your body, which can help manage high blood pressure. This is good for maintaining healthy, consistent blood flow, but that alone will not get rid of your varicose veins.
2. Vitamin C
Vitamin C acts as an anti-inflammatory in order to alleviate stress or swelling in the legs. This is a great way to relieve the pain caused by varicose veins but will not get rid of them entirely.
3. Vitamin E
Vitamin E is great for preventing cell damage and drastically improves your blood circulation, therefore reducing the risk of troublesome vein diseases. It alone cannot make varicose veins disappear, though.
4. Rutin
This flavonoid can be found in many foods. It acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It can also help strengthen your arteries and veins leading to lower cholesterol and lower blood pressure. These are good for your general health, but stocking up on a ton of rutin rich foods won’t make varicose veins vanish.
All of these have been shown to be helpful for varicose veins, but it's important to note they are NOT cures for vein disease. They will not get rid of your varicose veins or other vein diseases alone.
If you truly wish to get rid of varicose veins or cure any vein disease, you need to see a vein doctor who specializes in vein health. They can provide you with a number of treatment options depending on your specific needs.
Elmore Medical’s Treatment Options:
1. Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is one of the most effective and widely used methods for treating vein diseases. An irritating (sclerosing) solution is injected directly into the vein through a tiny micro needle. The vein closes and then disappears with normal healing.
2. EVLT
Also known as Endovenous Laser Therapy, this is regarded as the best available treatment for large varicose veins. Through a single needle stick, a fine laser fiber is inserted into a varicose vein. Laser energy is used to generate heat which seals the vein closed.
3. Microsurgery
Microsurgery is a technique which utilizes special instruments to remove veins through a very few, very tiny, "micro" incisions. The incisions are so small that, with normal healing, one can scarcely find them on the leg.
4. Varithena
A small amount of Varithena is administered into the vein where the microfoam fills the desired section and treats the vein wall, causing the diseased vein to collapse. Blood flow is then redirected to healthier, nearby veins. The microfoam disperses as it comes into contact with blood in healthy veins, meaning no trace is left behind after the procedure.
While there may not be a miracle pill that cures varicose veins, there are steps you can take to maintain a healthy body and therefore reduce the risk of getting varicose veins in the first place. At some point in your life, however, you will most likely deal with varicose veins in some capacity, so it's important to know the only true way to get rid of them is by seeing a vein specialist.
